In a brewery centrifuge, also known as a beer separator or decanter centrifuge, the same principles are applied to separate the liquid wort or beer. The liquid contains different suspended particles such as yeast, trub, and hop residue, each with a varying density.

As the centrifuge spins the liquid within a round bowl, the heavier components like trub and yeast are pushed closer to the bowl's outer wall due to greater centrifugal forces. In contrast, the lighter components such as water and alcohol stay closer to the center axis of the rotation bowl. This centrifugal separation is further facilitated by the difference in the circumference of the circle traveled by the liquids closer to the center and the particles along the outer wall.
